Southampton Committees

Alley Rally

This Committee organizes the biannual alley clean up known as Alley Rally, held on a Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon each Spring and Fall. Residents are encouraged to organize block-by-block events and to provide refreshments for volunteers. The goal of this project is to remove weeds, debris, and vegetation that may be blocking the alleys, or harboring pests, and to generally clean u p and beautify the alleys. Alley Rally is intended to supplement, not replace, regular weekly alley clean up by each resident. Volunteers should bring brooms, rakes, shovels, and trash bags, and wear gloves. Deed Restriction Preservation (to be confirmed)

This committee has not yet been formed, but is in the planning stages. This group will look into methods for extending the Southampton restrictions which expire in 2023, and at ways to strengthen the restrictions. Interim chair: Clark Martin.

Enforcement / Legal

These committees are responsible for (1) enforcing deed restrictions., and (2) for overseeing legal matters. Please bring any suspected violations or other legal issues to the attention of the committee chair or to the Southampton office. Chair: Hugh Rice Kelly / 713-524-1930

Esplanade

Committee members facilitate the maintenance of turf, watering system and curbs of the Sunset Boulevard esplanade, maintain surveillance to identify persons damaging esplanade, and coordinate watering system repairs. Committee members assist with annual fundraising for the esplanade. Chair: Louisa Hernandez / 713-522-2011.

Traffic & Infrastructure

The T&I committee addresses issues concerning the physical infrastructure of the neighborhood such as sewer, water, curbs and gutters, street and alley paving and design, utilities, street lighting, traffic control and general transportation issues. Committee members may also coordinate with the city’s Department of Public Works and council member offices. Chair: Les Randall / 713-524-9583.

Trees for Southampton & Beautification

Committee members will be primarily involved in the periodic tree-planting campaigns; identify needs and make arrangements for tree maintenance and pruning as appropriate; assist residents in identifying hazards to trees caused by construction and other adverse environmental factors. Committee members may also be involved in aspects of the neighborhood related to land use; including but not limited to revitalization and future land use projects, standards, etc. Chair: Hugh Rice Kelly /713-524-1930.

Welcome Commitee & Block Captains

This committee's primary function is welcome new Southampton residents to the neighborhood and to encourage residents to renew their Civic Club membership. Committee members may be block captains or assist block captains in the distribution of membership packets. This committee may also facilitate Block Parties or Block Captain parties or create new and fun ways to welcome new residents to Southampton. Park Parties

This committee assists the Friends of Fleming Park with social events including the Halloween Party and annual Park Party in May. To volunteer with an event please contact Winifred Riser.
